”Bark up the wrong tree”ってどんな意味？

Bark は犬などが吠える事を言い、bark up the wrong tree を直訳すると『間違った木に向かって吠える』となります。

猟犬が、獲物がいない木に向かって吠えている様を表現しています。
「獲物がいない木に向かって吠えても獲物は捕れないよ」というところから、
「お門違い、筋違い、見当違い」という意味で使われます。

例）
If you are going to meet Mr.Tanaka to try and sell him the new product, you are barking up the wrong tree.
田中さんに会って新商品の売り込みを使用としているのであれば、見当違いいだよ。

例）
