other と another 発音も意味も何となく似ていて、意味も似ているし、実際に使う時には、どっちを使ったらいいのかよく分からない、紛らわしいと学びながらも感じていませんか？
◎ the other ◎
The other は『残りの一つ』という場合に使います。
I have three cats. Two of them are grey, and the other is black.
3匹の猫を飼っていて、2匹はグレー、残りの一匹は黒色をしています。
◎ the others ◎
the othersは、otherに ”s” が付いている事からも分かるように、複数形に使います。
意味としては、複数あるものの中から、残り全て、となります。
I have five cats. One of them is grey, and the others are black.
５匹の猫を飼っていて、一匹はグレー、その他の残りは黒色をしています。
”the” がついていますので、どの猫か特定されている状況で使います。
※残り全ての物が複数ある場合 the others を the other + 複数名詞（cats）をでも同じ「残り全部」を表現する事ができます。
One of them is grey and the other cats are black.
◎ others ◎
others は 特定の物を表す “the” が付かなった場合の「不特定」＆「複数形」です。
「その中のいくつか」という意味になります。
There are a lot of cats. Some of them are grey and others are black.
たくさん猫がいるんだけど、何匹かグレーで、黒色のも何匹かいる。
（まだ他に別の色の猫もいる）
theが付かない場合には、グレー、黒以外にも他の色の猫がいる、という事が表現されます。
the others になると、先ほど説明した通り、グレー以外の残りの猫は全て黒色になります。
Some of them are grey and the others are black.
◎ another ◎
“another” は ”an” + “other” 不特定＆単数の「もう一つ（別の）」という意味になります。
I have two cats, and I would like to have another cat.
猫を2匹飼っているんだけど、もう一匹飼いたいんだ。
冠詞 “the”、“a” 特定/不特定 も考え方は英語学習者には紛らわしいポイントです。
